Washington's own Willard Scott began his career as an NBC page in 1950, and he teamed up with Ed Walker (now host of WAMU's The Big Broadcast) in 1955 for the morning radio show The Joy Boys, which aired for almost 20 years. The entire nation fell under the spell of Willard's grin in 1980 when he first appeared on NBC's Today Show, and he has remained one of TV's most prominent figures ever since. In 1985, he was recognized by President Ronald Reagan with the Private Sector Award for Public Service.

This program was recorded on June 12, 2003 at the Smithsonian Institution.
