Neil Simon has written 29 plays in thirty years, most of which began on Broadway and then continued to live through films and revivals around the country. His Broadway shows include Come Blow Your Horn, The Odd Couple, California Suite, Barefoot in the Park, Biloxi Blues, and Lost in Yonkers. With the plays have come many awards recognizing his achievements, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Lost in Yonkers. The characters and situations he created, such as the obsessively neat Felix and the gruff, less than orderly Oscar, in The Odd Couple, have become reference points for us in our own lives.

In an interview with Jackson Bryer, Mr. Simon discusses the evolution of his plays, from his first to his most recent.

This program was recorded December 8, 1994 at the Smithsonian Institution.
